St. Pancrazio was native of Antiochia, today a city in Siria.
He reached Naxos the 9 July in 40 AD, to spread the Christian Faith in Sicily and as soon as he planted the symbol of the cross on the beach all the temples and the statues of the pagan divinities suddenly collapsed.
He practiced for almost 60 years at the apostolate in Taormina until he was killed by the pagans.
At the presumed point of the landing, the tribune of Taormina raised a marble statue of St. Pancrazio in 1691. On the plint there are bas relief of some episodes of his life.
The statue was found first located nearby an ancient ruined little church and later moved to the church square of the new church in 1962.
Inside the church one can be seen an old painting made in 1879 showing St. Pancrazio, and a painting made in 1710 representing "The Pieta".
