Russia bombed a Children’s hospital in Kyiv

Date:
08.07.2024

Volodymyr Zelenskyy / Володимир Зеленський:

Okhmatdyt Children's Hospital in Kyiv. One of the most important CHILDREN’S hospitals not only in Ukraine, but also in Europe. Okhmatdyt has been saving and restoring the health of thousands of children.

Now that the hospital has been damaged by a Russian strike, there are people under the rubble, and the exact number of casualties is still unknown. Right now, everyone is helping to clear the rubble – doctors and ordinary people.

Russia cannot claim ignorance of where its missiles are flying and must be held fully accountable for all its crimes. Against people, against children, against humanity in general. It is very important that the world does not remain silent about this now, and that everyone sees what Russia is and what it is doing.

Tobias Billström: If you need one argument why it is necessary to aid Ukraine so that it can defeat Russia, then here it is. And we will help Ukraine, I can assure you.

Toni Mikkola: I hope that this last strike by Russia is the Straw That Broke the Camel's Back The Russian missile strike on a children's hospital is a war crime on two levels. First, targeting a hospital is illegal under international law. Second, the tactic of double tapping—waiting to strike again to kill rescuers—is equally heinous.
This act is the final straw. NATO and the EU need to step in. NATO and the EU should create a special protection force with one clear goal: to protect civilian targets. This force won't join the war but will focus on stopping missiles and attacks aimed at civilians. This action falls under Article 51 of the United Nations Charter, which allows for collective self-defence. Article 51 lets countries defend themselves and others from attacks.
This protection force is defensive, aimed at stopping war crimes and saving lives. This isn't an escalation. It's a move to save civilians and protect civilian infrastructure. By intercepting attacks on non-combatants, NATO and the EU will uphold international humanitarian law and UN Article 51 Attacking a hospital and then targeting rescuers is a barbaric act. A unified, protective response by NATO and the EU will send a strong message: the world won't sit back and watch civilians be deliberately targeted.
Tomorrow, the UN Security Council will meet to discuss Russia's missile attack on a children's hospital in Kyiv. UN "Security Council" is currently headed by Russia. The irony is not lost on me.

Lucia Stedile: For much less than that, @NATO interfered in Kosovo. Why are it paralyzed now?

Kaja Kallas: Shocking images as Russian missiles hit Okhmatdyt Hospital, #Ukraine’s largest children’s hospital. It's a reminder of why we must support Ukraine and why outright Russian war criminals must be held to account.

Kathleen Tyson: Is Israel bombing all 38 hospitals in Gaza bad too?
Jim Dowson B.Th MA: Israel destroyed 40 Hospitals but you were SILENT??

Robert C: NATO must close the skies over Ukraine.

L.H.: It is all the more important that we withdraw our help and resources from the supporters and toleraters of the Russian regime. To be clear: Serbia has no European future and should be immediately suspended from the EU accession process. You are funding a Russian satellite state.

Juha Wiskari: Was such a bitter price to be paid for European countries and the USA to provide decisive support to defeat Putin? Stop the hypocritical restrictions that prolong the suffering of Ukrainians. "This conflict will only be resolved on the battlefield." (Finnish x-Moscow ambassador.)

Gabriel Simons: You are one of the only brave leaders supporting Ukraine!! It's time to ramp up help and pressure to defeat that barbaric invading horde!!

Volodymyr Zelenskyy / Володимир Зеленський: I appreciate your support, dear @KajaKallas. It is critical that this brutal Russian terror is met with adequate and strong response. Russian criminals must know that they will be held accountable for all of their crimes.

Stephen King: Trump’s pal Putin bombed a children’s hospital in Ukraine today. 37 killed.
