Nachum "Nakhche" Heiman (or Nachum Heyman or Nachum Hayman; May 6, 1934 – August 17, 2016) was an Israeli songwriter and composer. Many of the hundreds of songs he wrote have become classics and part of the history of Israeli folk music.
Biography
Nachum Heiman was born in Riga. When he was five years old, his grandfather, Menachem Mendel Heiman, the captain of an icebreaker in the North Sea, smuggled the family by ship from Riga to Gothenburg, Sweden. From there, they reached South Africa. He is the father of Israeli rock singer C Heiman.
Heiman died in hospital on August 17, 2016 in Kfar Saba, Israel. He was 82.
Music career
Heiman won the 2008–2009 Israel Prize in the field of Hebrew song. He founded the "Hebrew song Heritage association" and served as its artistic director until his retirement in 2011.
