Potential terror attack in Mannheim, Germany. A man drove a car into a large group of pedestrians.
2 persons were killed and more than 25 injured when a car driven by presumably terrorist, rammed into a crowd in city of Mannheim, police said as they asked the public to stay away from the downtown area and remain in their homes. 15 of victims are in critical condition; a one woman had her leg torn off by the assailant.
Police spokesperson Stefan Wilhelm said that a driver drove into a group of people in Paradeplatz, a major square in the downtown area in Mannheim, killing one person.
A suspect is in custody.
Stefan Wilhelm said “several” people were injured but police can’t yet specify how many were hurt and how badly they were hurt.
“We can confirm that one perpetrator was arrested. “We can’t yet give information on whether there were further perpetrators.”
Mannheim has a population of 326,000 and lies 85 kilometers (52 miles) south of Frankfurt.

Wie bereits berichtet, befinden sich derzeit die Polizei und Rettungskräfte im Einsatz. Bisherigen Erkenntnissen zufolge ist ein Auto in eine Personengruppe in der Mannheimer Innenstadt gefahren. Nach derzeitigem Stand der Ermittlungen wurde hierbei eine Person getötet und mehrere Personen verletzt. Zur Anzahl und Schwere der Verletzungen können bisher keine Angaben gemacht werden. Im Rahmen der sofort eingeleiteten Fahndungsmaßnahmen konnte ein Tatverdächtiger ermittelt und festgenommen werden. Über die bisher veröffentlichten Informationen können aktuell keine weiteren, gesicherten Informationen bekannt gegeben werden.
