Harri Heikki Veikko Hurme (Finland, 02.06.1945 - 23.09.2019) was an extraordinary person who achieved mastery in various disciplines of chess.

Biography
In the 1970s, Harri Hurme was one of the top Finnish chess players. He won three silver medals at the Finnish Chess Championships (1971, 1974, 1978).
Harri Hurme played for Finland in the Chess Olympiads:
in 1974, at the fourth board in the 21st Chess Olympiad in Nice (+5, =1, -5),
in 1978, at the third board in the 23rd Chess Olympiad in Buenos Aires (+4, =2, -3),
in 1980, at the third board in the 24th Chess Olympiad in La Valletta (+5, =2, -2).
Harri Hurme played for Finland in the World Student Team Chess Championships:
in 1968, at the second reserve board in the 15th World Student Team Chess Championship in Ybbs (+5, =2, -3),
in 1969, at the first reserve board in the 16th World Student Team Chess Championship in Dresden (+3, =2, -6).
Harri Hurme played for Finland in the Nordic Chess Cups:[5]
in 1973, at the sixth board in the 4th Nordic Chess Cup in Ribe (+2, =3, -0),
in 1974, at the fourth board in the 5th Nordic Chess Cup in Eckernförde (+1, =2, -2).
Chess composing
Finland produced many great chess composers. One of them was Harri Hurme:
He composed direct mates, studies, selfmates, reflexmates and helpmates.
He was FIDE Master for chess compositions since 2010.
He was International Solving Master of the FIDE since 1993.
Harry Hurme was a solving IM,
Harri did send the following personal data:
"I noticed in a recent EG that dr Erich Zepler was expert on radios. I made my MSc diploma work on radio engineering. I have also a career in otb chess, three times silver medal in Finnish championship and five times national champion on senior otb chess. I have been also involved in chess organizations, 20 years in the board of the Finnish central chess federation, out which four years as chairman. Since Matti Myllyniemi passed away in 1986 I have been the vice chairman of ST (Finnish problem chess organization). Besides player and composer I am also solver. I have collected altogether 24 medals in World championships and European championships, most of them in team events, even some senior playing medals included in that number. I am married and we have one daughter."
Harri was an IM solver and a FIDE master for compositions with 12,83 FIDE Album points. He was also a FIDE master in OTB chess and represented Finland in many international competitions, including three Chess Olympiads.
Harri was the vice chairman of the Finnish Chess Problem Society for more than three decades and participated actively in PCCC/WFCC congresses. His first participation was in 1978 and Vilnius congress in August 2019 was his last one. He was in the Finnish solving team in almost every WCSC competition, winning several team medals and an individual bronze in Bratislava 1993.
"During his long career, Hurme worked as a player, as a missionary and as an organiser. He won numerous prizes in both world championships and international competitions. He served on the Board of the Finnish Central Chess Federation for more than 20 years, including four years as Chairman, and on the Selection Committee from its inception until his death. Mr Hurme was also a long-standing chairman of the Finnish Chess Club and served as vice-chairman of the Finnish Mission Chess Clubs for some thirty years."
Hurme's last chess tournament was the Finnish Senior Chess Championship in June, which he won by one point. At the Vilnius Mission Congress in August, Hurme was still part of the Finnish qualifying team.
