Karl Adolf Koefoed Larsen (2.5.1896-22.12.1963) was one of the most important Danish problem composers. He grew up in an extremely chess-orientated environment, his brother Arne was himself a chess enthusiast and his father Peder Andreas Larsen (1 April 1869-28 April 1946, his death was 75 years ago) was also a chess author and problem composer. The Problem-sKAK Larsen by Leif C. Schmidt, published around 1981, contains not only the main part dedicated to K.A.K. but also around 100 problems by his father. The son made his debut as a problem composer as a 16-year-old in Skakbladet in August 1912 under the name Karl Larsen (only later did he use the initials K.A.K., under which he became known), composing a total of over 600 problems, mainly two- and three-movement problems and self-mates. From 1935 to 1958 he was editor of the renowned chess section of Magasinet, a weekly supplement to the Danish newspaper Politiken, and in the early 1930s he was head of the studies department at Skakbladet.
