Alexander Konstantinovich Kalinin (Russia, 1914-2004)
Russian chess composer from Volgograd who lived near Moscow.
In 1934 he finished his studies of geodesic geologist and, two years later, entered the Soviet army; Participated in World War II and was decorated.
Chess composition
From his youth Kalinin stood out as problematic: he is the author of some 320 problems, with 23 first prizes, seven of which achieved in contests of the armed forces;
But also composed for "pleasure" around 50 Studies and even won two competitions and was champion of Soviet army in the specialty in the years 1975 and 1983.
In other chess activities, he was president of the National Commission for Chess composition (1966);
He collaborated in the publication "Voenni vestnik" (1969) and received the title of Master of Sport of the Soviet Union for the composition chess in the year 1970.
The studies of the engineer Kalinin, sometimes made up of his own ideas, are as brief as they are interesting
and are almost always characterized by a key play which the author is pleased to note with two signs of admiration.
