Yeshayahu Blaustein (11.05.1949 - 30.12.1972) was a young architect and talented Israeli chess composer who was successful in almost all genres of chess composition. Unfortunately, his life was short; he died half a century ago at the age of just 23.
Life Son of Yekutiel and Rebecca. He was born on 11 May 1949 in Haifa and studied there at the elementary school and at the Reali High School. His talent for drawing was already evident in kindergarten. He was an excellent student and from his first year of studies he won a prize for his diligence every year and completed his studies with honors. Since he was ten, he had begun to devote more and more to painting, and his parents had assigned him a special room in their apartment so that he could devote himself to the painting. He was also serious about playing the piano, and after reaching Bar Mitzvah he became interested in chess. After a year or two, he began to devote more time to this new hobby. He studied and was particularly interested in professional problems. He was accepted as a member of the National Association of Problems, participated in national competitions and won prizes. In 1970 he even won the national competition for the polypropylene. Thus, they merged in his multifaceted personality, perfect harmony, theoretical studies, high level playing, painting and chess problems. He was a member of the “Scouts” movement and was active in the Gadna, and he joined the IDF in August 1967, was accepted to the academic reserve and began studying at the Faculty of Architecture at the Technion in Haifa. During the second year of his studies, he was commended by the heads of the Technion faculty for being the outstanding student. After completing his studies he began serving in the Engineering Corps. He was also appointed military photographer in the “Gadna camp.” On December 30, 1972, he fell from the headquarters of Yeshayahu during his service and was brought to eternal rest in the military cemetery in Haifa. In a letter of condolences to the family, his commander wrote: “A short while, the service of your loved one in the unit, but in this short time we were able to recognize him and despite his modest achievements, we noticed his qualities and some of his exceptional talents.” I tried to add him to him from a number of candidates, And indeed, when he began his work, he captivated all of us with his profound and profound approach to every subject, with the great talent that solved every problem and his cultural attitude to everything. ” To commemorate his memory, his parents published a series of fancy albums, including his life history and memoirs, as well as a selection of his paintings, photographs, architecture and chess problems; Each year, Peres is awarded an outstanding student of art and painting at the Reali School in Haifa.
