Dr. Eduard Mazel ( * 24-12-1859 - † 27-12-1943) Czech chess composer of chess problems

Eduard Mazel composed direct mates in the Bohemian style.

Germain magazine "Die Schwalbe" wrote:

The bitter conflict between Eduard Mazel (24.12.1859-27.12.1943), who died 75 years ago, and Johannes Kohtz was already mentioned in the last issue (pp. 589/590), whereby the quite contentious Kohtz did not leave a good hair on Mazel's head. Nevertheless, as head of the problem section of the renowned Wiener Schachzeitung for many years, he was a generally respected problemist. Oscar Blumenthal, who coined the term miniature in problem chess, praised Mazel in both volumes of his Schachminiaturen (1902 and 1903) as "one of the finest and most vigilant connoisseurs of problem literature" and went on to write: "Dr Eduard Mazel, who with his comprehensive knowledge of problem literature and his selective critical taste has rendered me essential services in compiling my Blumenlese, has again provided me with tireless assistance in the preparation of this volume. [...] He has unearthed lost creations from old sources that are difficult to access and has been able to identify the first inventor of many a problem that has become popular and has travelled through chess literature in various forms".
