Hermann Rübesamen (* 26 April 1892 in Frankenhausen; † 7 July 1916 near Caboiselle) was a German chess composer.
Chess composition
Rübesamen published his first tasks at the age of 15. As a grammar school pupil and in the first years of his studies, he composed most of his compositions. Around 50 of his compositions are known. In 1911, 36 of his compositions appeared in the commemorative publication celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Akademischer Schachklub München, of which he was a corresponding member.
Rübesamen gave a clear definition of the Roman idea, created the term Flächenbahnung and attached great importance to the purity of the idea. He is regarded as one of the pioneers of the new German school of chess composition. In addition to orthodox mating problems, he also composed self-matings and a series of studies.
Life
Rübesamen attended pre-school from 1898 to 1902 and then grammar school in Rudolstadt until 1910, where his father was employed as a senior teacher. His maternal grandfather, Henneberg, also lived in Rudolstadt. He taught him to play chess at an early age, composed his own chess exercises and compiled a handwritten collection of exercises, mainly by Bayer, Nowotny, Plachutta, Willmers, Capraez, Campell and Healey.
From 1910 to 1914, Hermann Rübesamen studied one semester in Strasbourg, two at the Technische Hochschule Dresden and five in Halle. In February 1914, he passed his state examinations in physics, chemistry, geography, propaedeutics and mathematics. He came to Weißenfels as a probationary candidate. After passing his viva on 10 December 1914, Rübesamen obtained his doctorate in philosophy (Dr. phil.) in Halle (Saale) on 29 May 1915 with the topic Über Empfangsstörungen und elektrisch-meteorologische Elemente der Atmosphäre.
He volunteered for military service in 1915, became a non-commissioned officer in the same year and fell in the First World War in the Battle of the Somme near Caboiselle.
