Σπύρος Μπίκος (22-08-1911 - 23-09-1987) Greek chess composer Spyros Bikos

Spyros Bikos was a pioneer of Greek chess composition.

He left his name to a twomover theme, for whose definition we can refer to Emmanuel Manolas: "in one phase, in one variation a self-block is exploited and in another variation the moving piece is captured. In another phase, the same two defenses have reciprocal continuation ). For this theme a composition contest was organized in Holland, in 1948, having as judge the Hollander G. Seilberger." Spyros Bikos was also the editor of the magazine "To Mat" between 1952 and 1964.

Die Schwalbe (magazine for chess composition) reports in Issue 251, October 2011:

Bikos was very versatile in chess, edited the magazine To Mat from 1952-65 and was active in the Greek Chess Federation and also as a club official. A street in Athens bears his name and there is an annual team cup tournament named after him as well as a chess club. In 1946, he was the first Greek composer to win an award in an international composition tournament, which was followed by many more, including a silver and a bronze medal at the 1974 Nice Chess Olympiad for joint tasks with Dimitris Kaprolos.
