Bonnie Pierce (born September 6, 1987, in St. Paul, Minnesota, USA – died August 24, 2026) was a 38-year-old mother of four daughters who died while selflessly saving her toddler daughter in a house fire.

On the afternoon of August 22, 2026, a fire broke out on the first floor of an up-and-down duplex on the 700 block of Magnolia Avenue East in St. Paul (approximate coordinates: 44.9736° N, 93.066° W). The fire was one of three structure fires that St. Paul firefighters responded to within about 90 minutes that afternoon.

Bonnie was home at the time with two of her four daughters — Aurora and toddler Grace. Aurora escaped by kicking out an air-conditioning unit and climbing through the window. Bonnie initially made it out of the building as well, but when she realized Grace was still inside, she went back into the burning home.

When firefighters entered, they found Bonnie shielding her daughter with her own body. She was unresponsive, had been without oxygen for approximately 15 minutes, and suffered burns over about 48 percent of her body. Despite the efforts of first responders and medical staff, Bonnie died on August 24. Grace survived, remained hospitalized, and was expected to make a full recovery, according to the family.

Bonnie is survived by her daughters Alaynah, Aurora, Jemma, and Grace, as well as her grandson Atlas. The family lost a mother and grandmother. A GoFundMe campaign was set up to help with Grace’s medical and recovery needs, immediate living expenses, and other unexpected costs after the tragedy. The cause of the fire remained under investigation.

Bonnie Pierce will be remembered as a mother who protected her child until the very end.
