Tijana Radonjic

A 19-year-old student, Tijana Radonjic from Novi Sad, Serbia, died while parasailing in Budva, Montenegro, after reportedly unfastening her safety equipment mid-air.   She had been on holiday when she was taken up to around 50 metres above the Adriatic Sea during what was said to be a promotional parasailing ride. The flight was allegedly part of a marketing arrangement with a local tourism operator, where she would take part in a video intended to promote summer tourism in the region.   Footage from the incident showed her appearing increasingly distressed while strapped into the parasailing seat. She was seen trying to pull herself up using the side straps before unclipping her safety belt and harness. Moments later, she shifted in her seat, became inverted, and fell through the leg restraints into the sea below.   Witnesses on the beach reported hearing her scream phrases such as “Put me down!” and “Help me!” shortly before she fell.   Emergency services responded quickly and searched the area, but she was later confirmed dead. Authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.   Local reports differ on what may have caused the incident. Some suggest she may have experienced a panic attack while others say she may have believed there was a problem with the equipment. Officials have not confirmed any single explanation, and suicide has also reportedly not been ruled out, though her family has said they do not believe she intended to harm herself.   The tour company involved said she appeared calm and happy before the ride, stating she had been smiling, waving to friends, and showed no obvious fear of heights. They said they are unsure why she unbuckled her safety gear, suggesting it may have been a sudden moment of fear or confusion rather than a deliberate act.   Her family described their grief in a public tribute, saying they cannot accept her loss and expressing how deeply she will be missed. Friends also remembered her as lively, kind, and full of energy.   An investigation is ongoing, with authorities reviewing equipment and awaiting autopsy results to better understand exactly what happened during the parasailing flight.
