Efim (Hyman) M. Krigman was born in 1907 in Belorussian city Mogilev. Many of his relatives were cobblers. Efim got training in this profession in youth years and worked as a cobbler for a short time. Being an orderly and punctual person, he was a good student in middle and high schools. He was very proficient in the numerical calculations what predetermined his future profession. Efim moved to Moscow at about 1930, where he was admitted to the accountant training program. He worked as an accountant since graduation of the program until his retirement. He got married in 1936. His only son was born in 1938. Before Great Patriotic war Efim worked as an accountant at Stalin Auto factory in Moscow. He was drafted in Red Army in October 1941 and sent to the Leningrad front where he served in the artillery unit of 45-mm anti-tank guns. Efim was wounded twice during his military service. The second wound in head was very serious. He was a recipient of several government awards for bravery and professionalism demonstrated during combats. At the end of May, 1945 he returned home in Moscow where his wife and son were waiting for him. Soon Efim was hired as a senior accountant by one of Civil Engineering Company. He was fired from his job in 1949 when the Soviet government initiated discrimination measures against Jews. He was unemployed for about 6 months and after that unexpectedly received an offer to come back. Efim accepted the offer and stayed with the company until his retirement in 1967. His grandson was born in the same year and he started to spend a lot of time with the child. Babysitting was his job and enjoyment at that time. Being a gentle and friendly person, he built very close relations with the grandson. However their warm relations did not last long. Efim M. Krigman died on February 29, 1972. He was buried in Vostriakovskoe cemetery, Moscow.
