Boris Andreyevitch Sakharov (Russia, 28.03.1914-12.04.1973)
Chess composer
Excellent Russian composer from Petrograd, who resided in Moscow, and was an eminent scientist in metallurgical chemistry specializing in steel and rare metals. In spite of his laboratory, factory and teaching tasks, Professor Sajarov also developed an intense work in the field of chess composition: he was an international referee since 1956; Vice-president of the Permanent Commission of the FIDE (1965-72) and during the same period presidio the respective Commission of his country, where by his chess merits was named Sports Master of the USSR in 1968. As a composer he began his activity in 1935, many in collaboration with Anatoli Kuznetsov. His participation in contests has been very successful. In addition, 22 of his endgame studies have been published in various FIDE Albums. Sajarov's scholarly ideas have a great deal of originality, even in the final matte or drowning schemes, and his varied works, which are almost always done with refined technique and without the need for variants, have only exceptionally motivated observations of the criticism
