Born in Glasgow, Jack Revill (DJ"Jackmaster") worked at well-known record shop Rubadub in Glasgow.
Revill was trained to be a DJ at the age of 12 by his best friend Calum Morton (a.k.a. Spencer). After finishing school in Glasgow, Jack Revill began performing as a DJ. At the age of 14 he began working at Glasgow record store Rubadub Records, where he earned no money but was paid one record per hour of work, but after leaving school at 16 he began working full-time in Rubadub distribution. While working at this store Revill was nicknamed Jackmaster in reference to the popular term "jackmaster" coined in Chicago's house music scene in the late 80s. Revill adopted the alias Jackmaster as his DJ name when he performed on local radio station Radio Magnetic alongside his early mentor Claude Young.
Revill founded the record label, Point. One Recordings, in 2006, it was an electronic label created with the intention of releasing the first works of Warp Records artist Rustie under the alias Voltaic. After that, in 2007 Revill founded Dress 2 Sweat, a vinyl label that focused mainly on Baltimore club music from the United States.
A year later Revill and his good friend Calum Morton, along with Morton's brother Neil, founded the label Wireblock Records, which released Hudson Mohawke and Rustie in the early stages of their careers before they signed to Warp Records, but also personal heroes such as Lory D from Rome.
He was named "Breakthrough DJ" at DJ Magazine's 2010 Best of British Awards.
In 2010 he co-founded the electronic house label Numbers Records. In 2011 he released a mix compilation series Fabric Live. In 2016 he released a DJ Kicks mix album.
As well as club appearances, he has played at festivals including Glastonbury, T in the Park, Time Warp and Tomorrowland.
In December 2014 Revill was voted Best DJ at the DJ Magazine Best of British Awards and ranked 11th in Resident Advisor's prestigious Top 100 DJs of 2014 poll, where he placed 5th and 2nd in subsequent years.
In November 2016 Revill was awarded the Scottish Music Awards Sub Club Electronic Music Award by SSE, becoming the first winner of this new category within the Scottish Music Awards.
In April 2017 Revill was awarded the Tennents Golden Can Award for his contribution to Scottish culture.

He had recently released the single Nitro, featuring Kid Enigma, telling Electronic Groove music magazine: “It was about feeling hyped and inspired in the club.
“Sadly, those moments are rare now. Blame the phones and people who don’t dance, I think.
“I am so grateful for my fans, but I got into music because I love dancing. It’s a lost artform at the moment, I think.”
Dance magazine Resident Advisor described Revill as a “mercurial DJ” who “left a substantial mark on dance music.”
English singer Example described Jack Revill as “Down to earth. Brutally honest. Hilarious. Loyal. Blunt. Passionate. Annoyingly stylish. Insanely gifted. Energised a room whether on the decks or off them. "

About him
"The musician, whose real name was Jack Revill, has died aged just 38. A post written by his family was published on his Instagram profile. It states that he died on Saturday on the Spanish island of Ibiza - from complications following an accidental head injury. The meaning of this wording was not further explained. Jackmaster had a decisive influence on the electronic music scene in the UK. The musician came from Glasgow and was one of the UK's best-known DJs. He has played a major role in the music scene in his home city for decades. Among other things, as a young man he founded a label on which greats such as Jamie XX and Hudson Mohawke released their first songs. The sympathy from the scene is correspondingly great.
Electro greats such as Peggy Gou, Disclosure and Black Coffee have written under the post about how affected they are by Jack's early death. Many music colleagues wrote about the great times they had with him. And US superstar Diplo wrote in a comment: ‘You will live forever’." Vincent Lindig
