Johannes Rietveld (Johannes Jacob Rietveld ; born 6 August 1893 , died 15 August 1968 ) was a Dutch chess problem solver and chess composer

Chess composition
Rietveld composed Glatthaar tasks, mostly three-moves. In 2016, the WFCC awarded him the title of International Master in Chess Composition.

Die Schwalbe reports about him (Issue 292, August 2018):

The Dutch painter and problem composer Johannes Jacob Rietveld (6 August 1893-15 August 1968) was born 125 years ago and died 50 years ago - two reasons for a mention in this calendar page. Rietveld learnt to play chess at the age of 12 and began composing at around 15. His speciality was two- and three-move chess; at first he mainly created mating problems, but he soon became involved with strategic elements and later extensively with line combinations. The great Ele Visserman wrote about Rietveld twice. He presented a selection of 54 problems in the 1953 Jaarboek of the Bund niederländischer Problemfreunde on the occasion of Rietveld's 60th birthday, and in his 1964 volume 64 Nederlandse componisten in 1964 he is represented once again with three problems
