Newman Guttman

Newman Guttman (04-04-1927 - 02-02-2018) American chess composer

He was an International F.I.D.E. Judge and was the US Delegate to the WCCC. He composed twomovers and more recently focused on helpmates.

Newman Guttman was one of the participants at the legendary first "World Congress" of problemists, which took place in Piran in 1958. Many years later - at least until 2002, when the meeting was held in Portoroz, just a stone's throw away from Piran - he continued to be a regular visitor to PCCC meetings, where he represented the USA as a delegate. Guttman was active as a chess composer well into old age and has now passed away at the age of 90 (4 April 1927-2 February 2018)
