Otto Fuß (08.12.1861-12.07.1944) was an important and versatile chess enthusiast who excelled as an organiser, chess problem solver and chess composer
He was chairman of the Hanover Chess Club for decades and president of the Lower Saxony Chess Association from its foundation in 1924 until 1941. (Incidentally, another problemist, Hermann Lücke, was president of the NSV (1957-58), and since 2007 M. Langer, who was also a Schwalbe member for a time, has been president, at least with a favourable attitude towards problem chess). Among other things, Fuß organised the Hanover congresses in 1902 and 1926 and ensured that problem tournaments were also held as part of these. Together with Ferdinand Möller, he published two volumes in 1909 and 1939 with 150 and 200 selected chess problems respectively. The foreword to the more recent volume reveals that it was Fuß and Möller who first honoured a problem from the New German School in the 1910 German Chess Federation problem tournament in Hamburg. However, they contrasted their attachment to the new school with their concern that the other problem schools might be completely forgotten.
