Halyna Hutchins was cinematographer who enjoys experimenting with lighting and impressionistic storytelling.
Originally from Ukraine, Halyna grew up on a Soviet military base in the Arctic Circle surrounded by reindeer and nuclear submarines.
She holds a graduate degree in International Journalism from Kyiv National University in Ukraine and previously worked as an investigative journalist with British documentary productions in Europe.
Halyna’s recent work also includes Blindfire, racially charged cop drama written and directed by Mike Nell starring Brian Geraghty (The Hurt Locker, TNT’s The Alienist) and Sharon Leal (Supergirl, Instinct),winner of Best Crime Drama at the Houston International Film Festival, 2020.
After moving to Los Angeles, she graduated from the AFI Conservatory with MFA in Cinematography and has recently finished shooting her sixth feature film, an art house action Archenemy, directed by Adam Egypt Mortimer and produced by SpectreVision.
Halyna was one of the 8 Female Cinematographers for the 21 Century Fox DP Lab as well as featured in the February issue of American Cinematographer as one of the industry’s “Rising Stars of Cinematography 2019”.
Was accidently shot dead by Alec Baldwin, who discharged a prop firearm on the set of a Western he was making in New Mexico on Thursday
Alec Baldwin killed the film’s director of photography and wounding the movie’s director, the authorities said.

The cinematographer, Halyna Hutchins, 42, was killed, and the director, Joel Souza, 48, was injured around 1:50 p.m. on the set of “Rust,” which is being filmed in Santa Fe County, said Juan Rios, a spokesman for the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office. The circumstances of the shooting are under investigation.
