Georgiy Osipov

Georgiy Pavlovich Osipov/ოსიპოვი გიორგი პავლეს ძე (May 1, 1920 – November 17, 1975) was a Soviet military chauffeur and a participant in the Great Patriotic War (World War II). At the start of the war in 1941, he was drafted into the Red Army. He served in the 69th Separate Anti-Aircraft Artillery Division of the 23rd Army, where he demonstrated courage and was awarded the Medal "For Courage". He transported cargo across the Road of Life using a GAZ-AA truck, often being submerged along with his vehicle due to Nazi bombings. He was also awarded the Medal "For the Defense of Leningrad". For his combat service, he received the Medal "For the Victory over Germany in the Great Patriotic War 1941–1945". After the war, he married Anna Alekseevna Sipina in Leningrad (May 16, 1946) and then they moved to Tbilisi. He worked as a driver and was a Shock Worker of Communist Labor, for which he was awarded the "Shock Worker of the Ninth Five-Year Plan" badge. Among other awards, he received the Jubilee Medals "Twenty Years of Victory in the Great Patriotic War 1941–1945" and "Thirty Years of Victory in the Great Patriotic War 1941–1945", as well as the Medal "In Commemoration of the 250th Anniversary of Leningrad". He died in Tbilisi, Orkhevi settlement, and is buried at Dampalo Cemetery. His height was 164 cm (5'4"). His family affectionately called him Zhora (Zhorik).
