Riana Ramazova

A suicide bomber who killed herself and a police officer in Istanbul’s Sultanahmet tourism district this week was a Russian citizen, the Ihlas news agency reported.

Police identified the woman as Riana Ramazova while an autopsy of her body was under way, Ihlas said today, without saying how it got the information. The bomber was earlier thought to be a Turkish member of DHKP-C, a militant Marxist group that dates back to 1970s and is best known for its assassination of a former prime minister in 1980.

Turkey’s Interior Minister Efkan Ala confirmed that the bomber had been identified by security forces but declined to disclose her name, state-run news agency Anadolu reported.
