Braydon Smith the boxer who two days earlier lost consciousness after a fight against John Vincent Moralde, has died.  The Australian boxer suffered a head injury. He was rushed to a hospital where doctors discovered that was bleeding in the brain.

Family spokesman James O’Shea confirmed Braydon Smith, who was in the final year of a law degree, had been in an induced coma at a Brisbane hospital since collapsing 90 minutes after a WBC Asian Boxing Council continental title bout with John Moralde of the Philippines on Saturday.

“We hoped the coma would have relieved the swelling of his brain, but he died this afternoon,” confirmed O’Shea.

The 23-year-old Australian boxer lost consciousness in the locker room. Witnesses recall that Smith in the locker room was white as a ghost. It turned out that he had brain injury. The doctors tried to save him but, unfortunately, on Monday, two days after the battle, the hospital informed the family about the death of Smith.

His death raises question of whether the head injury was a result of the fight against Moralde and whether the judges could have prevented the tragedy. Australian police is currently investigating, but in the ring, there were signs that Smith had any problem.

Nicknamed “The Great White” Braydon Smith was appreciated for his humility and his devotion to boxing, determined to give a good image to his favorite sport.

“He really wanted to change the image of boxing,” said O’Shea.

On social networks, the hashtag “prayforbrayd” was used by many people with messages of condolence to the young man described as a “true gentleman” of boxing.
