He and his identical twin William Gilbert Alington were born and grew up in New Zealand on February 16, 1914. Both were pilots with the Royal New Zealand Air Force (RNZAF), and  possibly seconded to the RAF - not exactly sure.

I know they flew out of England during the war. Uncle Gilbert survived the war, and so did their younger brother Geoffrey Charles Alington, my father, also a bomber pilot, but with the RAF
