Russia bath lotion Boyarishnik kills 62 drinkers in Irkutsk, 57 hospitalised
Household products are seen by some as a cheap alternative to alcohol across the former Soviet Union and the product, called Boyarishnik (Hawthorn), which smelled like alcohol was consumed by weekend by more than 60 people of one districts at Irkutsk. 50 were dead by Monday. Boyarishnik contains methanol, a toxin found in antifreeze, not ethanol (drinkable spirit).
A state of emergency has been declared in Irkutsk, and Russia's top investigative agency opened an enquiry into the incident.
