The military operation codenamed "Web," conducted by Ukrainian forces on Russian territory and personally overseen by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, was successfully executed. Attacks on Russian military airfields destroyed 41 aircraft, accounting for over 30% of Russia’s strategic air fleet. The operation was led by Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) under Vasyl Malyuk. This impressive operation was prepared for over a year and a half due to complex logistics. Initially, the SBU smuggled FPV drones into Russia, followed by mobile wooden cabins placed in trucks. At the moment of drone launch, the cabin lids were opened remotely, and the operation’s organizers are now back in Ukraine. On June 1, 2025, social media began spreading reports of FPV drone attacks on Russian strategic aviation airfields:

  • Initially, an attack was reported on the "Olenya" airbase in Murmansk Oblast in northern Russia.
  • Later, it was revealed that drones struck the airfield at the "Belaya" military base in Irkutsk Oblast, marking the first attack on Russian military targets in Siberia.
  • Drone attacks also hit the "Dyagilevo" airfield in Ryazan Oblast and
  • "Ivanovo Severny" in Ivanovo Oblast.
  • It is believed the operation targeted five sites, but an attack on the "Ukrainka" airbase in Amur Oblast failed due to a truck carrying drones exploding.

Russia later acknowledged the attacks, claiming all were repelled with around 10 technical units damaged. A single FPV drone used by Ukraine costs just 300–600 dollars, while a modernized Russian Tu-95MS strategic bomber is valued at over 100 million dollars.
