Two Victorian-based finance workers who were on board flight MH17 have been remembered by their Melbourne employer, IG Australia.

Malaysian-born Elaine Teoh and foreign exchange trader Emiel Mahler were among those who died in the crash in eastern Ukraine.

It is believed Mr Mahler was a Dutch national.

"IG Australia wishes to send its deepest sympathies and our heartfelt condolences to the families of our colleague and former colleague Elaine Teoh and Emiel Mahler," the company said in a statement.

"Both were beloved members of our close IG community and were valued members of our team.

"We are deeply saddened by this news."

Ms Teoh's brother David Teoh Qi-en, who lives in Kuala Lumpur, posted on Facebook: "I had confirmation from [Malaysia Airlines] that my sister is on board flight MH17, the plane that was shot down along Ukraine-Russia border."

Ms Teoh graduated from Melbourne University in 2008 after studying commerce.
